What Claude Opus 5.5 is best at

Agents with long tool-use chains

In an agent that plans, calls tools, reads results and re-plans, a wrong step early forces recovery later, so errors compound. An Opus-class model is worth testing where correctness matters more than cost per request; compare it with Claude Sonnet 5.5 (2Γ— cheaper than Claude Opus 5.5 on input) on your own agent traces.

Specification review and code architecture

Refactor planning, migration review and API contract checks need a whole system in view. A 1M-token window fits a large specification or a big part of a codebase in one request; reading 250,000 input tokens costs about $1.00 at list.

Financial and regulatory analysis

Financial modelling, compliance review and audit preparation are work where an error costs more than the model. Claude Opus 5.5 lists at $4.00 per 1M input tokens, 20% cheaper than Claude Opus 4.8; check its answers against your own reviewed cases.
